As one of my monthly goals is to meditate every day I have signed up for a free meditation challenge with Oprah and Deepak. This 21-day challenge focuses on manifestations of success. Feel free to follow along, try it yourself and/or comment below.
Successful Emotions
Q1) To help make your emotions a better ally in your success, you must become better acquainted with your feelings. Ask yourself, “How do I feel?” and write down in your journal a few words that describe your emotions.
I feel tired, confused, hurt, sometimes happy, sometimes frustrated, sometimes energized but mostly confused about my emotions.
Q2) Now note how your body feels in relation to those emotions. Do the positive emotions feel more open, expansive, and light in your body? Do the negative emotions make your muscles, breathing, and posture feel more contracted, tight, and tense? Write down the feelings you experience.
When I feel positive emotions I don’t feel anything different. It is just “normal”. When I do experience negative emotions, which is often, I do feel tense, tired and I get headaches. It is unpleasant.
Q3) Sit comfortably and notice one of the uncomfortable emotions within. Perhaps it’s a persistent worry you have about your mother’s health or a difficult relationship with a coworker. Notice where that worry is held or felt in your body, then begin to take slow, deep breaths from your diaphragm. Dialogue with your emotional self and say, “We can manage this worry and start to feel better.” As you continue to breathe, see your body relax in your mind’s eye and release the worry it is holding. Write down your experience of how the release process went, and how you felt afterward.
I mostly feel it in my stomach, which begins to physically hurt. Like my stomach has a knot in it and someone is pulling it tighter and tighter. After many, many deep breaths and words of encouragement, the knot loosened but didn’t go away completely. I do suffer from anxiety so I didn’t have high hopes that this would do anything but it did help quite a bit.
Q4) Use this space to reflect further on your experience today.
Today was an emotional roller coaster, as are many of my days. I am definitely using the breathing and mantra technique which has helped a little when my anxiety has spiked. Hopefully, the more I do this the better it works.
